I do enjoy your low key, comfortable teaching style.

Timna has taught several classes for us at Sew Inspired & they always fill to the point we have to book more. Everyone who takes one class with her is anxious to take any others we’re able to book with her.

Workshops

Designing with flying colors photo.JPG

Designing with Flying Colors (2-3 hours, no sewing)

Are you stuck in a color rut? Or are you afraid that you might make a color “mistake” in your quilts? In this workshop, students try out new color combinations and learn how to use color placement as a major design element. Participants should bring 10, 5" squares of different fabrics from their stash to the workshop.

Map Quilts (3 hours)

In this three-hour workshop participants learn to make a quilted map based on a paper map. Everyone in the group works from the same map - usually it is a location in the vicinity of the guild or shop. This workshop can also be combined with Designing with Flying Colors to make a full-day workshop.

Map Making with Fabrics (6 or 12 hours)

Use fabric to capture a special location. Maybe it’s your favorite vacation spot, your neighborhood, or your hometown. Over the course of the workshop, participants will learn both pattern-making and improvisational quilting techniques to create personal map quilts. Bring a large paper map of a location you would like to replicate (approx. 24”x36”), your favorite fabrics and threads, and a willingness to experiment. Mark your place in the world!

Eggs and Avocados (3 hours)

These graphic machine-appliqued eggs and/or avocados are the perfect building blocks to make a wall-hanging, pot holders, or even the beginning of an egg-straordinary large quilt.

Improvisational Piecing (3 or 6 hours)

Tips and tricks for creating your own improvised piece are discussed during this day of play and experimentation.

The three-hour class is packed with experimenting and trying new techniques, including curved piecing.

The six-hour workshop allows students more time to compose and piece together their quilt tops. It can also be combined with Designing with Flying Colors where we spend the first 1.5-2 hours playing with color combinations, with the rest of the workshop dedicated to improvisational piecing techniques.

Curved Piecing Improv.jpg

Curved Piecing Improv (3 hours)

This is a shorter version of the Colorfall: Curved Piecing workshop. Participants will learn the tips and tricks of improvisational curved piecing and how to combine it with applique (machine or hand) to create unconventional designs. Participants will make their own wall-hanging sized Colorfall that is unique to them.

Colorfall: Curved Piecing (6 or 12 hours)

Are you ready to try some new quilting techniques? Feeling a bit confined by traditional designs? Join Timna as she gently eases participants out of their comfort zones and cheers everyone on as each person creates their unique version of Colorfall. Throughout the workshop, students will learn the tips and tricks of improvisational curved piecing (it’s not as hard as it looks!) and how to combine it with applique (machine or hand) to create stunning designs.
