This past weekend my quilt, Orphan Blossoms, was the Signature Quilt of the International Quilt Festival, Long Beach. I think this was as good of an excuse as any to take our family vacation in Southern California. Don't you? Over the past few months I have seen ads in the quilting magazines promoting the event. But nothing was as exciting as seeing the quilt used all over the Long Beach Convention Center. This is what welcomed us as we entered the building.
What I was looking forward to the most, was seeing how the images and logos were used on the souvenirs. I was not disappointed.
It was very fun to see my quilt used everywhere. But what I really loved was seeing how other designers took the motifs in my quilt and modified them to fit the needs of the International Quilt Festival. Isn't that what quilting often is - using a pattern or an inkling of a design and then modifying it to your own tastes and purposes?
